emote Setup
RF Remote Control Function (VR-4090/VR-4080)
The Remote Control unit of the VR-4090 and VR-4080 has
the RF remote function in addition to the IR remote func-
tion. The VR-4090 and VR-4080 can receive the Remote
Control unit commands even when they are installed in a
position where the IR remote signal can hardly access, for
example behind a tree.
The Remote Control unit is set to the RF remote mode on
factory setting, but can also be switched to the IR remote
mode.
Press and hold the
INPUT MODE
key on the receiver for
more than 2 seconds to display “RF OFF”.
RF ON
: Communication between the receiver and the Re-
mote Control unit is performed according to the following
method.
• The receiver unit receives the signals from the Remote
Control unit as RF signals.
• The signals sent from the receiver unit to the Remote
Control unit are sent as IR signals.
RF OFF
: Connect the separately sold KENWOOD IR-9991
(IR transceiver) or similar to the receiver for communica-
tion with the Remote Control unit. (Refer to page 31 for the
use method.) In this case, installation of the RF remote an-
tenna is not required.
Changing the RF Transmission Frequency
The RF remote function may be unavailable due to radio
wave crosswalk, etc. In this case, the transmission frequency
can be changed.
To change the RF remote transmission frequency:
1. Open the battery cover on the rear.
The control distance of the RF remote signal is about 30
feet (10 meters) provided there is no obstacle.
Here is list of adjustments of that can maximize the opera-
tion of your Remote Control unit. For optimal operation of
the Remote Control unit :
1. Aim the Remote Control unit toward the room where
the Receiver is located.
2. Do not position the Receiver and the Remote Control
unit near metal (such as heat ducts). Metal can absorb
RF signals.
3. Make sure the batteries in the Remote Control unit are
fully charged. Weak batteries will affect the range of the
Remote Control unit.
4. Make sure that the range of the Remote Control unit is
not being affected by other radio frequency (RF) trans-
missions and the operation range of the remote control
unit will be influenced according to the material of the
obstacles between the remote control unit and the re-
ceiver. Please confirm that there is no such influence.
NOTE: The tests for range limits of the Remote Control
unit and the Receiver were conducted in open-air
distance tests. Actual distance of the signal will be
based on the construction of the building the unit
is being used in as well as other factors such as
outside interference.
2. Change the RF switch setting.

After changing the RF frequency of Remote Control unit, be
also sure to change that of the receiver.
3. Change the receiver’s RF reception frequency.
• Press and hold the
SETUP
key inside the receiver
panel for more than 2 seconds. Each operation
switches the RF reception frequency as follows.

“RF BAND 1”
2
“RF BAND 2”
3
“RF BAND 3”
Select the same number as the position number of the
RF switch of the Remote Control unit.
