drip leg must be readily accessible. Install in accordance
with the “Gas Piping” section. Refer to the current edition
of the National Fuel Gas Code (ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54).
GAS LINE PURGING
Air may be present in the gas lines and could prevent
the burner from lighting on initial start-up. The gas lines
should be purged of air by a qualifi ed service technician
after installation of the gas piping system.
HIGH ALTITUDE INSTALLATIONS
Breathing carbon monoxide can cause brain damage or death.
Always read and understand instruction manual.
• Special consideration must be taken with
installations above 3,500 ft. (1,067m).
• Please contact a qualified service agent
to obtain proper setup and instructions
before lighting.
• Failure to implement the proper setup
will result in improper and inefficient
operation of the appliance resulting in
production of increased levels of carbon
monoxide gas in excess of the safe
limits which could result in serious
personal injury or death.

WARNING: THESE HIGH EFFICIENCY WATER HEATERS
ARE CERTIFIED FOR USE AT SPECIFIC ALTITUDE
RANGES. FOR USE AT ALTITUDES OVER 3,500 FEET
(1,067M) OR 6,500 FEET (1,981M) THE PRIMARY
CONTROL BOARD (PCB) MUST BE CHANGED. USE
THE APPROPRIATE ACCESSORY KIT NUMBER FOR
ALTITUDES SHOWN IN THE ABOVE CHART.
FLOODING/FREEZING
If this water heater has been exposed to flooding,
freezing, fi re or any unusual condition, do not put it into
operation until it has been inspected and approved by a
qualifi ed service technician. These conditions can result
in unseen internal damage and are not subject to warranty

FILLING THE WATER HEATER
Never use this water heater unless it is completely full of
water. To prevent damage to the tank, the tank must be
fi lled with water. Open the nearest hot water faucet to allow
air to escape. Water must fl ow from the hot water faucet
before turning “ON” gas to the water heater.
To fi ll the water heater with water:
Close the water heater drain valve by turning the
handle to the right (clockwise). The drain valve is on
the lower front of the water heater.
Open the cold water supply valve to the water heater tank.
NOTE: The cold water supply valve must be left
open when the water heater is in use.
To insure complete fi lling of the tank, allow air to exit
by opening the nearest hot water faucet. Allow water
to run until a constant fl ow is obtained. This will let air
out of the water heater and the piping.
Check all water piping and connections for leaks.
Repair as needed.
