To install and connect an XRE200 External Routing Engine:
1. Follow instructions in “Unpacking an XRE200 External Routing Engine” on page 68 .
2. Mount the external Routing Engine by following instructions appropriate for your site:
•
“Mounting an XRE200 External Routing Engine on Two Posts in a Rack or Cabinet” on page 71 (using
the mounting brackets provided)
•
“Mounting an XRE200 External Routing Engine on Four Posts in a Rack or Cabinet” on page 73 (using
the separately orderable four-post rack-mount kit)
3. Follow instructions in “Connecting AC Power to an XRE200 External Routing Engine” on page 79 to
connect power.
4. Perform initial configuration of the external Routing Engine by following instructions in “Configuring
an EX8200 Virtual Chassis (CLI Procedure)” on page 87 .
5. Set the external Routing Engine’s management options by following the appropriate instructions:
•
Connect a Device to a Network for Out-of-Band Management on page 83
•
Connect a Device to a Management Console Using an RJ-45 Connector on page 86
Mounting an XRE200 External Routing Engine on Two Posts in a Rack or
Cabinet
You can mount an XRE200 Routing Engine on two posts of a 19-in. rack or cabinet by using the
mid-mounting brackets provided with the external Routing Engine. (The remainder of this topic uses “rack”
to mean “rack or cabinet.”)
CAUTION: You cannot front mount an XRE200 External Routing Engine on two-posts.
You must mid-mount the external Routing Engine using this procedure if you do not
want to use the four post rack mount procedure.
You can mount the external Routing Engine on four posts of a four-post rack by using the mounting
brackets provided with the four-post rack-mount kit. See “Mounting an XRE200 External Routing Engine
on Four Posts in a Rack or Cabinet” on page 73 .
