Loosen hose clamp (5) and disconnect hose (4).

Remove three screws (3).

10. Remove thermostat housing (8), gasket (7), and

bypass-type thermostat (6).

CAUTION

Installation Notes

• Install thermostat by reversing the order of removal.

• Clean the gasket surface prior to installation.

• Use a new gasket during installation.

• Fill the radiator with clean water and ethylene glycol

based antifreeze mixed for the coldest ambient
temperature.

Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)

Remove heat shield. (See “Heat Shield” on
page 9-12.)

Disconnect battery negative (–) cables from
batteries.

Label all wires before disconnecting to ensure correct
installation.

Disconnect wire connector (1).

Do not operate engine without a thermostat
installed. Engine damage will result from
overheating.
