Muffler and Exhaust Assembly
Removal and Installation
See Figures 3-8 and 3-9.

CAUTION
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Allow engine to cool completely.
3. Raise the hood.

4. Remove two nuts (2), lock washers (3), and U-bolt
and clamp (1).
5. Remove two screws (5), lock washers (6), and nuts
(7).
6. Remove tailpipe (4).

7. Remove four screws (17) and lock washers (16).
8. Remove gasket (8).
9. Remove two screws (9), lock washers (10), and flat
washers (11).
10. Remove two screws (16), flat washers (15), lock
washers (14), and nuts (13).
11. Remove muffler (12).
12. Inspect the exhaust system for cracks, holes, and
distortion. Replace exhaust gasket.
Installation Notes
• Apply Loctite
®
242 (Blue) to the threads of screws
(16).
• Install muffler and exhaust assembly by reversing the
order of removal.
• Install new gasket (8) during installation.
Do not attempt to service the exhaust system
when the engine is hot. Serious personal injury
can occur.
