MAINTENANCE
7.0 GENERAL _________________________________________________________________
An improperly secured tractor
ready for adjustments can
cause serious injury or be fatal.
To prevent injury, lower implements to the
ground, disengage all drives, engage parking
brake, stop engine and remove key from ignition
switch before making any adjustments or
performing maintenance.
1.
Adjustment and maintenance should always be per-
formed by a qualified technician. If proper adjust-
ments cannot be made, contact an Authorized
Jacobsen Distributor.
2.
Inspect the equipment on a regular basis, establish
a maintenance schedule and keep detailed records.
a.
Keep the equipment clean.
b.
Keep all moving parts properly adjusted and
lubricated.
c.
Replace worn or damaged parts before operating
the machine.
d.
Keep all fluids at their proper levels.
e.
Keep shields in place and all hardware securely
fastened.
f.
Keep tires properly inflated.
3.
Do not wear jewelry or loose fitting clothing when
making adjustments or repairs.
4.
Use the illustrations in the Parts Listing as refer-
ence for the disassembly and reassembly of compo-
nents.
5.
Recycle or dispose of all hazardous materials
(batteries, fuel, lubricants, anti-freeze, etc.)
according to local, state or federal regulations.
7.1 AIR CLEANER ______________________________________________________________
1.
Empty dust cup daily. Replace element yearly.
IMPORTANT:
Do not remove the element for inspection or cleaning
unless the System Sentry indicates service is
required.
2.
Remove the old element as gently as possible then
check the dust pattern around the element. Uneven
dirt pattern indicates gasket leakage.
a.
Check all hoses and air ducts. Tighten hose
clamps.
b.
Carefully clean the inside of the filter housing
without allowing dust into the intake.
c.
Inspect the new element and gasket for damage.
Do not use a damaged element and never use
an incorrect filter element.
d.
Assemble the new element and make sure the
gasket seats evenly.
e.
Reassemble the dust cup making sure it seals
completely around the filter housing.
7.2 BATTERY __________________________________________________________________
Battery acid is very caustic
and fumes are explosive and
can cause serious injury or death.
Always use insulated tools, wear protective
glasses or goggles and protective clothing when
working with batteries. You must read and obey
all battery manufacturer’s instructions.
Make absolutely certain the ignition switch is
“OFF” and the key has been removed before
servicing the battery.

Verify battery polarity before connecting or discon-
necting the battery cables.
a.
When installing the battery, always assemble the
RED, positive (
+
) battery cable first and the
ground, BLACK, negative (
-
) cable last.
b.
When removing the battery, always remove the
ground, negative (
-
) cable first and the red, posi-
tive (
+
) cable last.
2.
Check the electrolyte level every 100 hours of oper-
ation.
3.
Clean the cable ends and battery posts with steel
wool. Use a solution of baking soda and water to
clean the battery. Do not allow the solution to enter
into the battery cells.
