5.1.5. Negative weight

If the negative sign appears when starting (Fig. 5), press the "

0

" (ZEROING) button to reset the

dynamometer to zero weight (Fig. 4). The dynamometer will then be ready to display new weight data.

Fig. 5 - NEGATIVE WEIGHT

Causes of negative weight

The negative sign is displayed by the dynamometer to indicate that the load is smaller than the original

zero load. This occurs, for example, when load slings or weights suspended from the dynamometer are

removed after it is switched on or after the last zeroing. These are some of the most frequent operations

causing negative weight data to appear on the display. In these and other cases, the negative sign can

be removed as described above.

Intermittent negative weight

In some cases a negative weight and a zero are displayed alternately. In almost all cases this occurs due

to mechanical vibrations generated by the elastic load slings. These vibrations can also be caused by

improper belt arrangements used to fasten the dynamometer. Although weighing operations are possible

under those conditions, it is strongly recommended that you check, repair or replace the parts causing

those vibrations in order to obtain higher weighing precision.
