Use the thermostart, particularly in
temperatures below 0°C (32°F). Starting
procedure is as follows:
1. Ensure that the parking brake is en-
gaged.
2. Move the dual range selector lever
and PTO lever to the neutral (central)
position to engage the safety start
switches. Then put all the gear levers
and auxiliary hydraulic control levers
in their neutral positions. Move the
hydraulic quadrant levers to the DOWN
position.
3. Set the hand throttle to the fully open
position.
4. Push the fuel cut-off control fully in.
5. Turn the starter switch to the second
position clockwise (heat) and hold it
there for 30 seconds.
6. Depress the clutch pedal.
7. Turn the key to the third position
clockwise (start) to engage the starter.
8. If the engine fails to start within 15
seconds, return the key to the (heat)
position for a further 10 seconds.
Caution
If the engine fails to start, ensure
that the starter motor pinion is at rest
before re-engaging the starter motor.
9. Re-engage the starter by moving the
key to the (start) position.
10. When the engine starts, return the key
to the (heat) position until the engine
runs smoothly, then allow the key to
return to the (auxiliary) position.
11. If the engine does not start, repeat the
re-heat and ranking cycle, as described
in operations 8 and 9.
After three attempts, if the engine fires
but fails to rick up, turn the key to the
(heat) position for several seconds,
then to the (start) position.
12. Set the hand throttle to a high idle
position (approximately 1200 rev/min)
for two or three minutes, before put-
ting the engine under heavy load.
Stopping the engine
Turn the starter switch to the OFF po-
sition.
After the engine has stopped, turn the
key from the auxiliary position to the OFF
position.
Caution
To prevent damage to the turbo-
charger, allow the engine to idle for a
short period before stopping.
Running in
The following precautions should be
taken during the running-in period:
1. Experience has shown that the first 50
hours of tractor operation have a sig-
nificant effect on the performance and
life of the engine. From new, the trac-
tor should the engaged in work which
will load the engine as near as possible
to full working conditions.
2. Use low gear when pulling heavy loads.
3. During the running in period, check
frequently the tightness of all screws,
