TWENTY-SEVEN (27) SPEED CASSETTE (FIGURE 4)

NOTE: This procedure applies to the Excelerator XLT Pro and XLT Gold ONLY.

To shift gears, you 

MUST 

turn the crank forward with the chain under some tension while the

bike is moving. 

DO NOT

 attempt to shift gears while bike is stationary.

There are two (2) shifters installed on the handcycle. The RIGHT shifter operates the nine (9)

gears on the lower derailleur and the LEFT shifter operates the three (3) chain rings on the upper

derailleur. Nine (9) gears X three (3) chain rings = Twenty-seven (27) speeds.
Shifting the chain on the lower derailleur towards the centerline of the handcycle is for climbing/

accelerating (easier cranking) and is called a DOWNSHIFT. Moving the chain on the lower

derailleur out or away from the centerline of the handcycle is for speed (harder cranking) and is

called an UPSHIFT.
Refer to the chart below for an explanation and use of the upper derailleur chain rings in combination

with the lower derailleur gears:

Each shifter has a large lever (brake handle) and a small lever (shifter handle). The right and left

shifters work in an opposite manner.

WARNING

DO NOT press BOTH shifter levers down at the same time. Doing so may

damage the shifter and will void the warranty. The gears WILL NOT shift when

both levers are pressed simultaneously.
DO NOT use excessive force. This may damage the shifter and void the warranty.

1. To upshift, perform one (1) of the following:

A.

LEFT SHIFTER - 

Press the shifter handle (DETAIL "A" of FIGURE 4) DOWN and

release. Repeat until the desired gear is achieved.

B.

RIGHT SHIFTER - 

Press the brake handle (DETAIL "B" of FIGURE 4) DOWN and

release. Repeat until the desired gear is achieved.

2. To downshift, perform one (1) of the following:

A.

LEFT SHIFTER - 

Press the brake handle (DETAIL "B" of FIGURE 4) DOWN and

release. Repeat until the desired gear is achieved.

B.

RIGHT SHIFTER - 

Press the shifter handle (DETAIL "A" of FIGURE 4) DOWN and

release. Repeat until the desired gear is achieved.
