1.1.2
FC-AL Front Dummy Fascias
FC-AL front dummy fascias are provided for fitting in all unused drive bays. They are designed as integral drive
module front caps with handles and must be fitted to all unused drive bays to maintain a balanced air flow.
1.1.3
Anti-tamper Locks
Anti-tamper locks are provided to disable the normal ’Push/Push’ latch action of the carrier handle.
1.2 Planning and Configuring Your Installation
1.2.1
System Configuration
Before you begin installation you should become familiar with the configuration requirements of your SS-1200-
FCAL system.
Please refer to the SS-1200-FCAL Installation/User Guide for information on your overall system configurations.
When planning your system configuration, please remember that:
• All SS-1200-FCAL enclosure drive bays must be filled with either a drive carrier, front dummy fascia or ESI
/Ops Panel module (Bay 1/1 only), no bays should be left completely empty.
The correct positions of each of the optional plug-in modules are detailed in the SS-1200-FCAL Installation/User
Guide.
1.2.2
Drive Configuration
Important
After you have installed the drive carrier modules in your SS-1200-FCAL enclosure, please refer
to the SS-1200-FCAL LRC I/O Module Installation Guide for configuration information relevant to
the I/O module and instructions for setting the Drive Select ID bits.
Although it is not essential we recommend that if there are only a limited number of drives or PSUs fitted then they
should be located as close together as possible (If for example only 1 PSU and 6 drives are fitted, the PSU should
be in rear bay 2 and the drives in Bays 1/1 through 2/3).
1.2.3
Drive Auto Start
The delayed sequence start is used to start the drives in the enclosure unless the Manual Start Flag (Jumper) is fitted,
in which case no drives will start and start up is left to the host computer.
If this is the case then to guarantee maximum redundancy within the system it is important that the host computer
starts the disks in a manner which gives the smoothest loading to the power system. The maximum number of drives
which can be started concurrently in a 12 drive enclosure are defined in
Table 1–1
If there are more than the specified number of drives installed as detailed in
Table 1–1
, then the drives should be
started in a staggered sequence at approximately 12 second intervals.
