puts that may be configured for FM, streaming or full-
range digital broadcast requirements.
Optional “Diversity Delay” of the composite multiplex
and FM-mode line outputs to synchronize the analog FM
signal with the digital program broadcast via the HD Ra-
dio™ System.
Internal RDS subcarrier combining and metering that ob-
viates the need for specialized monitoring equipment.
Intuitive front-panel setup and full remote operation over
any IP network. Provided software runs under Windows
XP or later with easy PC backup of all DAVID IV settings.
Low latency for off-air monitoring; boots or resets
in less
than one second;
draws only 8 watts from the AC mains.
DAVID IV TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Some specifications of the DAVID IV are difficult to quantify in
tabular form. Page numbers in parentheses here and elsewhere
in the manual point to more-in-depth discussions.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE
PLEASE NOTE
:
The gain structure of an audio processing sys-
tem is determined in large part by how the user
has seen fit to set numerous ‘subjective’ ad-
justments. In addition, various processing func-
tions intentionally upset the tonal balance (stat-
ic and dynamic frequency response) and the
waveform integrity (distortion) of the program
material. Thus it has become customary to es-
tablish and publish performance specifications
with audio processing features disabled or by-
passed. Unless otherwise expressed or implied
herein, this is the case with figures shown here,
as indeed seems also the practice of our worthy
competitors.
Frequency Response:
Composite/MPX Output:
±0.25dB, 20Hz–15kHz assuming the
use of a lab-quality FM-multiplex de-
coder with the appropriate de-
emphasis characteristic.
L/R Analog Line Outputs:
±0.25dB, 20Hz–15kHz through an ap-
propriate de-emphasis network in the
FM mode; ±0.25dB, 20Hz–20kHz in the
Flat mode.
AES Digital Output
(Digital Input)
:
±0.25dB, 20Hz–15kHz through an ap-
propriate de-emphasis network in the
FM mode; ±0.1dB, 20Hz–20kHz in the
Flat mode.
Noise
(unweighted)
:
Composite/MPX Output:
SNR >85dB with carrier modulation at
maximum output level through an ap-
propriate de-emphasis network.
L/R Analog Line Outputs:
Residual noise better than 100dB below
the output clipping point (through an
appropriate de-emphasis network in
the FM mode).
AES Digital Output
(Digital Input)
:
Residual noise better than 130dB below
0dBFS (through an appropriate de-
emphasis network in the FM mode).
Distortion:
Composite/MPX Output:
<0.01% THD using the appropriate de-
emphasis network
Line Outputs:
<0.006% THD in digital and analog Line
Outputs using the appropriate de-
emphasis network when indicated.
Stereo Separation:
Composite/MPX Output:
>65dB, 20Hz–15kHz assuming the use
of a lab-quality FM-multiplex decoder
with the appropriate de-emphasis char-
acteristic. Linear Crosstalk (main/sub
or sub/main): >78dB.
L/R Analog Line Outputs:
At 1dB below the output clipping level,
>100dB through an appropriate de-
