1. PRESENTATION OF THE SMART CAP 485

The Smart Cap 485 is a compact power factor automatic controller, that besides

eliminating or decreasing fines and losses in your system by low power factor allows the
supervision of electrical facilities. Totally developed with the signals processing more
modern techniques, the

Smart Cap 485

is easily programmed by its keyboard and

information presented in the crystal liquid display, or through serial communication.

The

Smart Cap 485

makes voltage measurements ( P-P or P-N ) and current signals

coming from the electric net, with which it calculates and indicates in effective value (RMS)
the electric magnitude of voltage; current; frequency and active, reactive, apparent power
and power factor, Thd (total harmonic distortion) and voltage odd harmonics up to 11st
order. With these measurements the

Smart Cap 485

controls the electric net power factor,

as the programming made by the user, adding or withdrawing capacitors banks. It can be
connected to any serial communication net RS-485 with protocol MODBUS-RTU, with up to
127 equipments (for more equipments consult the manufacturer).

The outputs activation is done through dry contact relays with firing passing near to zero,

decreasing the net noise quantity. It allows electric net conditions programming, control
mode and alarms.

It is available in the site www.ims.ind.br the Software TRANSCOM for net equipment

setup.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

- One phase power factor controller (1 measuring element) or three phases (2 or 3
measuring elements) connection delta or star;
- Operation mode: automatic or manual;
- Meter for direct connection:
1. Current input: 0,05 to 5A, through internal CT;
