10. Magnesium protection anode
10.1. General
The magnesium protection anode which is integrated
in the bu
ff
er of iPump A heat pumps must be checked
acc. to DIN 4753-3 for the
fi
rst time after two years
and a functional test must be done subsequently
every year. The exchange of the anode is described
on the next page.
10.2. Testing the magnesium protection
anode
The integrated protection anode in the iPump A is
insulated. When the anode is installed, the protective
current (mA DC) can be checked with an anode tester
or multimeter. For this, the bu
ff
er must be
fi
lled with
water. The connection line (black) between the anode
and the bu
ff
er is terminated and the measuring inst-
rument is connected in series between the anode and
the bu
ff
er (contact closed). After about 30 sec., the
measured value is set.
Interpretation of the measurement results
The measured value depends on the quality of the
enamel, the bu
ff
er size, the electrical conductivity of
the water, the installation of brass immersion sleeves
or non enameled components. For the bu
ff
er of the
iPump A , the measured protective currents are in the
range of > 1 mA. As a critical lower limit, a protection
current of < 0.3 mA can be considered. Since then
no corrosion protection is given, the anode must be
replaced.
Typical measurements iPump A
Resistance R = 500 k
Ω
Protection current I = 0,55 mA DC
Note of the bu
ff
er manufacturer
Please note that the measured protective current
indicates the function or malfunction of the magne-
sium protective anode, but there is no guarantee for
adequate protection conditions in the bu
ff
er!
