Chapter 1.

General description

The IBM Power 770 (9117-MMD) and IBM Power 780 servers (9179-MHD) use the latest
processor technology that is designed to deliver unprecedented performance,
scalability, reliability, and manageability for demanding commercial workloads.

The innovative IBM Power 770 and Power 780 servers with processors are
symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), rack-mounted servers. These modular-built systems use
one to four enclosures. Each enclosure is four EIA units (4U) tall and is housed in a 19-inch
rack.

The 9117-MMD and 9179-MHD servers introduce a processor card that houses four P7+
processors. The P7+ technology introduces increased performance over previous P7
processors.
