C. Changing the Heating Element
• Turn
off the power supply and drain the water heater (see procedure, this manual).
• Remove heating element (see procedure, this manual).
• Install new element with gasket, making sure the gasket and element are positioned correctly. Use a pipe
wrench to tighten the element containing cap.
• Reconnect the wires to the element. Reinstall the front cover (see procedure, this manual).
• Refi ll the water heater with water before restoring power.
Then use a thermometer to measure the water temperature at a hot water outlet in the structure.
D. Changing the Thermostat
• Turn
off the power supply.
• Disconnect the wire connectors from the thermostats. Take care
to note / label removed wires to aid in reinstallation.
• Use an 8mm wrench or socket driver to remove the six (6) nuts
and bolts from the canister. See Figure 13. Take care not to lose
these bolts and nuts. Replacements are not included with the
replacement thermostat.
• Remove the plastic cover.
• Install the new thermostat(s).
• Reinstall the plastic cover.
• Use an 8mm wrench or socket driver to reinstall the six (6) nuts
and bolts to the canister.
• Reconnect the wiring.
• Restore power to the water heater and observe operation.
