POST Error Messages
Error messages that display during the POST process describe what prevents the server from
completing the boot process. Refer to Tables 3-1 to 3-7.
NOTE:
HP recommends you correct the error before proceeding, even if the server displays to start
successfully. If POST still reports an error message after the corrective action, clear the CMOS
configuration, as described later in this chapter.
Table 3-1: POST Error Messages

Memory
Message Displayed
Description
Gate20 Error
The BIOS is unable to properly control the system board’s Gate
A20 function, which controls access to memory over 1MB. This
may indicate a problem with the system board.
Multi-Bit ECC Error
This message will only occur on systems using ECC enabled
memory modules. ECC memory has the ability to correct single-
bit errors that may occur from faulty memory modules.
A multiple bit corruption of memory has occurred, and the ECC
memory algorithm cannot correct it. This may indicate a
defective memory module.
Parity Error
Fatal Memory Parity Error. System halts after displaying this
message.
