Overview of the Advanced System Tests
The advanced system tests can be used to test each of the computer’s components.
These tests are more thorough and cover a wider range of functionality than the basic
system tests. Some of the advanced tests require user interaction.
Unlike the basic system test which tests the components automatically, you must
manually select the tests you want to run. You can select one or several tests to run.
You can run the tests just once or, in many cases, you can run the tests repeatedly by
selecting loop mode. You can exit loop mode by pressing
Esc
. Running the tests
repeatedly is useful for detecting hardware problems that occur intermittently.
How to Enter the Advanced System Tests
The advanced system tests can be entered after the basic system tests have been
completed.
NOTE You can also go directly to the Advanced System Test screen from the welcome screen
(shown on page 22). To do this, press
Ctrl
and
F11
for Compaq Corporate PCs, or
Ctrl
and
F9
for Notebook PCs. This is recommended only for advanced users who want to test
a specific problem. In most cases it is essential to run the hardware detection phase and
basic tests before performing any advanced tests.
