Connecting and Powering on the Autoloader
Remember to:
■
Remove the internal packaging inside the autoloader (see Figure 1 on
page 17 ).
■
Refer to the ANSI SCSI specification and
SCSI Cable Specifications on
page 116
for more information on cable length requirements.
Connect the autoloader as follows (see Figure 9 on page 30 for a cabling
illustration):
1. If the host computer is connected to a network, check with the system
administrator before turning off power.
2. Properly power off all peripheral devices connected to the host computer.
3. Power off the host.
Caution When installing cables, do not damage the SCSI pins.
4. Install a 68-pin jumper cable from the bottom connector on the autoloader
controller card to the left connector on the drive module (see Figure 9 on
page 30).
5. Install a SCSI terminator to the top connector of the controller card. Ensure
you are using the correct terminator type for your autoloader (LVDS or
HVDS).
Note For maximum performance, do not connect the autoloader to the
same SCSI bus as the hard drive or another tape drive.
6. Install a 68-pin SCSI cable from the SCSI adapter card on the host to the
remaining connector on the drive module.
7. If a remote management card is included with your autoloader, install a
Category 5 Ethernet cable from the back of the card into an active
network port.
8. Connect the power cord from the back of the power supply module to a
properly grounded outlet.
