Troubleshooting 3-15
Table 3-10. Overtemperature Troubleshooting Procedure
Symptom
Cause
Action
Overtemperature Warning
(This warning does not
stop the computer.)
Room temperature too
high, or restricted air flow?
(the computer sensed a
temperature rise in excess
of 35°C (95°F)).
1. Temperature in computer room may be rising so
that a warning message is issued. Check that room
air conditioning is operating properly.
2. Make sure there is sufficient air flow space
around the system.
3. Make sure all bulkheads and air baffles are
installed and secure.
4. Check for fan movement. If fan is not moving,
replace the fan
5. If all the above are ok, replace the power monitor
card.
Overtemperature Emer-
gency Warning
(This warning does not
stop the computer.)
Room temperature too
high, or restricted air flow?
(the computer sensed a
temperature rise in excess
of 40°C (104°F)).
1. Temperature in computer room may be rising so
that a warning message is issued. Check that room
air conditioning is operating properly.
2. Make sure there is sufficient air flow space
around the system.
3. Make sure all bulkheads and air baffles are
installed and secure.
4. Check for fan movement. If fan is not moving,
replace the fan.
5. If all the above are ok, replace the power monitor
card.
Ambient Temperature
Power Shutdown
(This message turns the
DC voltages off and stops
the computer.)
Room temperature too
high, or restricted air flow?
(the computer sensed a
temperature rise in excess
of 43°C (109°F)).
1. Temperature in computer room may be rising so
that a warning message is issued. Check that room
air conditioning is operating properly.
2. Make sure there is sufficient air flow space
around the system.
3. Make sure all bulkheads and air baffles are
installed and secure.
4. Check for fan movement. If fan is not moving,
replace the fan.
5. If all the above are ok, replace the power monitor
card.
