The most common needle styles are regular point and ball point, sizes 11/80,
14/90 and 16/100. The lower the values, the thinner the needle. The higher the
values, the thicker the needle. Thin needles are used for lightweight fabrics,
thick needles are used for more heavyweight fabrics. See the table below for
tips regarding the selection of needles and threads for particular fabrics.
Regular point needles are intended for sewing cotton, linen, silk, denim and
twill fabrics. This needle type is marked with the number 2020.
Ball point needles are intended for stretch-knitted fabrics, such as spandex,
t-shirt or tricot. This needle type is marked with the number 2045.

INSERTING AND CHANGING THE NEEDLE
Change the needle regularly – in particular when it shows signs of wear or
causes problems.
5. To replace the needle, turn the machine off using the power and speed
switch.
6. Loosen the needle clamp screw (13).
7. Remove and discard the old needle.
8. Insert the new needle, with the flat side towards the back. Insert as far as
it goes and firmly tighten the needle clamp screw (13).
9. The needle must be in good condition. A damaged, bent or blunt needle
will cause problems.
