Installing HPE FM 3180
Rack Mounting HPE FM 3180
You need the following to install the fabric module in a telco rack:
•
The fabric module kit containing the fabric module, 2 power cords, and 2 rails.
For ease of I/O connection, this procedure installs the fabric module in the rack with the front panel (I/O side)
facing the back of the rack; the same side as server/storage I/O connections.
To install an HPE FM 3180 or FM 3180 fabric module that lacks center mounting holes in a rack:
1.
Determine the 1-U slot position in the rack.
IMPORTANT
: You can mount the slides to the module in only one direction. So as to have all I/O
cabling at the back of the rack, you will need to install the rails such that the fabric modules will be
installed and removed through the back of the rack. If you are installing in an HPE rack, installing
the fabric modules in slots 46 and 47 in order to clear the power strips, making fabric module
removal and installation possible. In other rack models, you will need to determine which slots
enable the rails to clear obstructions when installing the fabric module.
2.
To install the fabric module in the rack so that the front (I/O) panel faces the back of the rack, you
need to install the rails so that the fabric module is installed from the back of the rack with the
thumbscrew fasteners at the back of the rack. To install the fixed rails in the rack slot: Line up the
fixed rail pins (rear or front, with the rack slot holes, press the rail latch, and release to secure the
rail. Pull to expand the rail and repeat to latch the other end to the rack.
IMPORTANT
: Since you need to install the fabric module from the back of the rack, you need to
position the rails in rack slots (i.e. top of rack) that allow the fabric module and rails to clear any
obstructions such as power strips. For example, if you are installing a fabric module in an HPE rack,
installing the fabric modules in slots 46 and 47 will clear the power strips, making fabric module
removal and installation possible. In other rack models, you will need to determine which slots
enable the rails to clear obstructions.
3.
Remove the slide rail from the fixed rail as follows: Loosen the thumbscrew, pull the slide rail out
until it stops, then on the outside of the rail, with one finger, pull the plastic tab to release the latch,
and remove the slide rail.
4.
Mount the slide rails to the fabric module as follows: On one side of the fabric module, determine the
orientation and position of the slide rail. Remove and re-install the two rail posts from the side of the
fabric module; one toward the front and one toward the rear of the fabric module in positions that
will line up with the slide rail slots, as shown below. Line up the slide rail with the posts, with the
rail thumbscrews located at the front (I/O) side of the fabric module and lock the rail into place.
Repeat on the other side of the fabric module.
IMPORTANT
: You can mount the slides to the module in only one orientation with the
thumbscrews located at the front (I/O) side of the fabric module.
