Replacing an SFP transceiver
Figure 2-3: Optical SFP transceiver
Before you begin
Unpack the replacement component and visually inspect for damage. If the part is damaged, do not
continue with this procedure.
1. Remove the fiber optic cable by depressing the latch underneath the connector and pulling the cable
out.
CAUTION:
Ensure that the connector does not get damaged while the cable is
disconnected.
2. Using your forefinger, lift the lever on the front of the SFP transceiver to the up position.
3. Grasping the lever, gently pull the SFP transceiver straight out of the SFP cage.
Installing the SFP transceiver
The SFP transceiver is designed to fit firmly in the SFP cage. A reasonable amount of friction is normal,
especially with new I/O modules.
1. Remove the protective caps from the SFP cage, SFP transceiver, and fiber optic cable, and then store
the caps in a safe place for later use.
2. Position the replacement SFP transceiver such that the label is on the bottom.
CAUTION:
You may damage the connector pins on the back of the transceiver if it is
not oriented correctly during installation.
3. Raise the lever on the front of the SFP transceiver to the up position, and then slide the transceiver
straight into the slot until the locking latch engages the transceiver.
CAUTION:
To avoid damage to the chassis assembly, do not force the transceiver to
slide.
4. Once the transceiver is seated, lower the lever to the down position.
5. Orient the fiber optic cable so that the latch is on the bottom, and then connect it to the SFP
transceiver.
You will hear an audible click when the cable is secure.
