B.3 Cleaning / disinfecting of measuring prisms

• Tonometer measuring prisms are not dispatched in a disinfec-

ted state and should always be disinfected before use.

• Thorough cleaning under running cold water during 30 to 60

seconds is mandatory before undertaking disinfecting routines.

For more intensive cleaning in case of strong contamination

carefully rub the prism with a cotton-wool ball under running

water. In addition only mild soap may be used.

• For disinfecting purposes we recommend an aqueous 'Pan-

tasept

' solution of 3 % during 10 minutes. Refer to the latest

versions of the manufacturer's instructions and sales literature

for details of the exact concentration, effecting time and appli-

cation of disinfectant.

Alternative agents: only those products which are listed on

Haag-Streit AG internet homepage (www.haag-streit.com)

may be used.

• After disinfection the measuring prisms must be rinsed tho-

roughly at least 10 to 60 minutes under running cold drinking

water. Dry them with a clean soft one-way tissue and store

them in a clean dry container.

• Only measuring prisms, free of any residue, should be used.

Residue may cause provoking and caustic reactions on the

patient's eye.

Not allowed!

Measuring prisms can get tension rips

because of:

• Alcohol

• Acetone

• UV radiation

• Sterilization

• Immersing in fluid for more than 1 hour

• Temperature above 60 °C
