Before beginning installation procedures,
these installation and operating instruc-
tions should be studied carefully. The in-
stallation and operation should also be in
accordance with local regulations and ac-
cepted codes of good practice.
1. General description
The SP-NE pump is designed for the pumping of
contaminated groundwater, e.g. from
• rubbish dumps,
• chemical depots,
• industrial areas,
• oil and petrol filling stations.
Furthermore, the SP-NE pump can be used for sam-
pling and monitoring and to some extent for incorpo-
ration in water treatment systems.
The handling of contaminated groundwater passes
through three stages:
a) monitoring,
b) pumping/remedial pumping,
c) treatment of the pumped water.
The SP-NE pumps are specially suitable for applica-
tion b).
2. Electrical connection
The electrical connection should be carried out in ac-
cordance with local regulations.
See also section
4. Electrical connection
in the in-
stallation and operating instructions for the SP
pumps.
3. Pumped liquids
Thin, non-explosive liquids, not containing abrasive
particles or fibres.
4. Environment
During handling, operation, storage and transpor-
tation, the environmental regulations covering the
handling of dangerous substances must be ob-
served.
In case of doubt, please contact GRUNDFOS or the
local authorities.
5. Service
Only pumps that can be certified as uncontaminated,
i.e. pumps containing no hazardous and/or toxic
material, may be returned to GRUNDFOS for servic-
ing.
To prevent injury to the health of persons involved
and to the environment, a health and safety clear-
ance form certifying that the pump is clean is re-
quired.
GRUNDFOS must receive this form before the
pump. Otherwise GRUNDFOS will refuse to accept
the pump for servicing. Possible costs of returning
the pump are to be paid by the customer.
6. Warranty
The GRUNDFOS warranty applies to pumps in-
stalled in accordance with these instructions and ac-
cepted codes of good practice.
Any constructional change of the pump will invalidate
the warranty. GRUNDFOS cannot be held responsi-
ble for possible consequential damage.
7. Sound pressure level
The sound pressure level of the pump is stated in
section
2.3 Sound pressure level
in the installation
and operating instructions for the SP pumps.
If the pump is to be installed in a position
where it is accessible, the coupling must
be suitably isolated from human touch.
Before making any electrical connections,
make sure that the electricity supply has
been switched off.
The pump must be connected to an exter-
nal mains switch.
The SP-NE pump is not approved as ex-
plosion-proof. Local authorities and regu-
lations must therefore be consulted if there
is any doubt about its suitability for a spe-
cific application.
The pump is not suitable for pumping
clean explosive liquids, but contaminated
groundwater only.
The pump is not allowed to run against a
closed discharge valve as this will cause
an increase in temperature/formation of
steam in the pump which may cause dam-
age to the pump.
When the pump is taken out of operation,
care must be taken to ensure that the
pump/motor and the riser pipe contain no
substances which might be hazardous to
human health or the environment.
Subject to alterations.
