Check the Boom Wear Pads
Genie specifications requires that this procedure
be performed every 1000 hours or annually,
whichever comes first.
Maintaining the boom wear pads in good condition
is essential to safe machine operation. Wear pads
are placed on boom tube surfaces to provide a low
friction, replaceable wear pad between moving
parts. Improperly shimmed wear pads or continued
use of extremely worn wear pads may result in
component damage and unsafe operating
conditions.
1 Start the engine from the ground controls.
2 Raise the end of the primary boom to a
comfortable working height (chest high), then
extend the boom 1 foot / 30 cm.
3 Measure each wear pad. Replace the wear pad
once it reaches the minimum allowable
thickness. If the wear pad is still within
specification, shim as necessary to obtain
minimum clearance with zero binding.
Note: The minimum shim clearance for primary
boom wear pads is 0.070 inch / 1.8 mm and the
maximum allowable shim clearance is 0.188 inch /
4.8 mm.

4 Extend and retract the boom through the entire
range of motion to check for tight spots that
may cause binding or scraping of the boom.
Note: Always maintain squareness between the
outer and inner boom tubes.
