Firmware Download Overview
The Firmware Download function performed at the terminal interface allows you to download new
operating firmware into the unit. New firmware is typically downloaded when GDC releases a new
version of firmware that improves performance or adds new features.
• Firmware downloads are performed via Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP). Keep the
Firmware Download screen open in order to monitor progress and display any error messages.
• The SC800 T3 accommodates Active and Standby versions of the firmware. Newly
downloaded firmware is first stored as the Standby Revision. You can switch between Active
and Standby Revisions as needed.
• When firmware is changed, the SC800 T3 will not need to be reconfigured since the EEPROM
stores the current configuration.
• You can perform a sequential download to a single DSU in the shelf, or a broadcast download
to all DSUs in the shelf.
Table 3-11 defines the filename and address formats used in sequential
and broadcast downloading.
• The sequential download uses the slot-line-drop address and the product code to
download to a particular DSU.
• The broadcast download uses a special syntax for downloading firmware to groups of
DSUs in the shelf.
• A download to a remote can be done by changing drop to 1 (one).

IMPORTANT! Before downloading new firmware to a SC800 T3 DSU, ensure that your card can support the
any new features. For example, to support new firmware releases that include data subrates, your DSU must
be at firmware version 02.00.00 or higher. This information is displayed at the DSU’s

( Figure 3-4 ). To upgrade older cards, contact your GDC service representative.
