Chapter 3:
SC800 T3 Operation
Overview
This chapter describes how to configuring the DSU, invoke diagnostic test functions, view the
current status of DTE interface signals and unit alarm conditions, and display information on the
unit. These functions are performed through the Craft or Telnet interfaces, described below.
Note
For information on GDC’s TEAM Management applications, refer to TEAM 800 and TEAM Core Operation
Manuals and Release Notes.
Terminal Interface via SCM
When the SC 800 T3 is installed in a SpectraComm shelf with an SCM card, it supports a VT-100
terminal interface via the SCM card. The SCM card uses either the Telnet protocol to send the
information to a remote, or it sends the information through the SCM front panel craft (CTRL) port.
When the SC 800 T3 card is installed in a shelf with or without an SCM card, and Switch S1-1
(Remote Option) is set to
ON
, it supports Telnet connectivity via the in-band management channel
from the master unit. A terminal connected to either the SCM’s front panel craft port, or LAN-
attached to the SCM can communicate via Telnet to either the master or remote SC 800 T3 unit.
Note
A Telnet session and a craft port session cannot take place simultaneously with a remote. A Telnet session
will override a craft port session in progress, or lock out the craft port from use. When the Telnet session is
closed, a craft port session can begin.
Terminal Interface without SCM
When the SC 800 T3 is installed in a SpectraComm standalone enclosure, make a direct terminal
interface connection at the rear panel TERM port.
When the SC 800 T3 is installed in a 2-slot SpectraComm 2000 shelf without an SCM card, and
Switch 1-1 (Remote Option) is set to
ON
, the DSU will support a direct terminal interface at the
associated rear panel TERM port(s) of the shelf. Since SCM is typically not deployed in the SC
2000, the TERM ports serve the same function as the SCM craft port for the product cards installed.
Note
If an SCM is installed in a SC 2000 shelf, you must set the rear panel SCM1 and SCM2 strapping jumper to
the
ON
position.
