3.20 CONTROL MODULE POWER
SUPPLIES
The PM-SC control module is powered from two 12Vdc batter-
ies connected in series. These are fed from a battery charger
whose input comes from the user connection terminal block via
transformer. This should be connected to a critical load, so that it
will be supplied from the generator when utility power is lost. The
transformer is nominally fed from 120Vac.
NOTE:
The unit is shipped with the batteries disconnected. To connect
the batteries, insert the 4-wire plug into the receptacle on the
battery charger module.
3.21 CONNECTIONS TO POWER
MANAGER ENCLOSURE
The PM-SC enclosure is designed for mounting to an indoor wall
using the four mounting ears. Electrical connections may enter
the enclosure from the top, bottom, or right side of the box. The
installer should punch or drill conduit entry holes as required.
Internal wireways are provided for the installer to route wiring to
the terminal strips.
DISCONNECT ALL POWER FROM THIS UNIT
BEFORE MAKING CONNECTIONS.
Connection steps (refer to Interconnect Wiring Diagram 0E4086 in
the back of this manual):
1. Ensure that utility power is OFF at this point.
2. Connect # 18AWG (or heavier) double insulated wire (fused
at the source) to terminals TB2-1,2,3 in the PM-SC and run
this to the nearest 120Vac single phase critical load that will
be supplied by the generator if utility power is lost.
3. For each equipment transfer switch (non-critical load), con-
nect a pair of permissive leads and a pair of load shed leads
from TB4 and TB3 respectively to the inputs on the transfer
switches. This wire should be #18AWG or heavier and rated
to carry at least 240Vac.
4. Connect the ground terminal inside the PM-SC to earth
ground as required by applicable codes.
NOTE:
Ensure that the wiring in the following steps 5, 6 & 7 is run
separate from the power wiring.
5. Using #18AWG (or heavier) wire, connect the two-wire start
between the PM-SC and all of the transfer switches in the
system. TB1 positions 3,4 or 5 should be connected to wire
#178/0 at all locations. TB1 positions 6,7,or 8 should be
connected to wire #183 at all locations.
As a back-up in case of damage to the communications wire,
the two-wire start may also be wired to one generator directly.
In the event of communication failure, one generator would be
able to start when needed and supply emergency power to the
critical load.
