COMMUNICATIONS – PM-SC
TO GENLINK
The PM-SC has two RS232 ports to permit remote monitoring and
programming. These ports also use the Modbus RTU protocol and
can communicate with GenLink software or with any compatible
software. For example, a building management package could be
used to talk to the PM-SC. When the “GenLink” RS232 port is not
connected locally (to a PC for programming), an internal circuit
connects its signal lines to the internal modem. This allows off site
monitoring and programming of both the PM-SC and the individual
generator sets via a standard telephone line.
GenLink can show both an overview (mimic) of what the system is
doing, and can also “drill down” to monitor an individual generator
set. GenLink can be used in this way to change the standard gen-
erator parameters such as setpoints for alarms, etc. The PM-SC
appears transparent to GenLink when used in this fashion - it
appears as though you are using the standard GenLink package
hooked up to a single generator.
The GenLink mimic diagram shows all the generator sets that are
hooked up to the system and their power distribution. It shows
which sets are operating and the states of their contactors (wheth-
er they are running in parallel, etc.).
3.9 COMMUNICATION
ISSUES?
Normally communication problems can be resolved with the help
of either the Genlink or Touchscreen com port diagnostic displays
– see Figures 3.7 and 3.8. Select the diagnostic display then
change the port to the port number of interest. The display now
shows if data is being received or not via status led’s (or check
boxes for Genlink). If no data is being received then suspect the
wiring or the downstream port setup (the slave). The port setup
is displayed in the function and baud rate lines and these should
match the slave setup. Normally each generator is set as a mod-
bus slave and the PM-SC is set as a master, also you should check
you have the correct slave address setup in both the generators
and PM-SC. Each generator should have a unique slave address
and this should be entered into the generator settings page. If data
is being received but is not understood by the PM-SC then the
status line will indicate this as the requests received total will not
count up. This is usually caused by an incorrect setup of the func-
tion or baud rate data.

3.10 RELAY FUNCTIONALITY
Several function relays are provided for customer connection via
terminal strips. These relays provide the following signals:
1. Permissive

2. Permissive
2
3. Permissive

4. Load Shed 1
5. Load Shed 2
6. Load Shed 3
7. All generators online status
8. Exercise with transfer
