If you cannot access Setup
If the diskette drive is misconfigured so that you cannot access it to run a
utility from a diskette, you might need to clear CMOS memory. To do so
you must open the system, change a jumper setting, use BIOS Setup to
check and set diskette drive options, and change the jumper back. For
detailed instructions, see “CMOS Clear jumper” on page 176.
Starting BIOS Setup
You can enter and start BIOS Setup:
•
When you turn on the system, after POST completes the memory
test
•
When you reboot the system
•
When you have moved the CMOS jumper on the system board to
the “Clear CMOS” position (enabled); for detailed instructions, see
“CMOS Clear jumper” on page 176.
In the three conditions listed above, after rebooting, the system displays this
prompt:
Press <F2> to enter SETUP
In a fourth condition, when CMOS/NVRAM has been corrupted, the
system displays other messages, such as:
Warning: cmos checksum invalid
Warning: cmos time and date not set
In this condition, the BIOS loads default values for CMOS and attempts to
boot.
