Battery Operation
• The battery module should be fully charged
when initially received to calibrate the battery sta-
tus with the Battery Status LED 1 on the
Smart-
Scan
system. Allow for at least 16 hours in opera-
tion on AC (8 hours turned off) to fully charge
battery.
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES
Effective operation of the
SmartScan
unit requires good
operating procedures. The following table is essential-
ly a list of "Do" and "Don't" practices. The left hand
describes practices to achieve, and the column at right
provides reasons why these practices should be followed.
Recommended Practices...
...and Why
Maintain at least 10ft in front of
SmartScan
to achieve an
optimal temperature read.
Making quick turns in front of
SmartScan
minimizes the
number of readings taken and may not always return an
optimal temperature read.
Look up at the camera inside
SmartScan
to achieve good facial
detection and an optimal temperature read.
Looking down or to the side of the camera may result in a
poor temperature read or a non-read.
Remove hats or other coverings that hide the forehead skin
(i.e. bandanas, glasses on forehead, etc.) to achieve an optimal
temperature read.
Covering the forehead area may still allow
SmartScan
to
recognize a face, but the temperature that is returned will be
from whatever is covering the forehead and may be inaccurate.
Be sure to have patrons move long bangs to the side so that the
forehead is exposed as they approach
SmartScan
.
Bangs that cover the forehead may still allow
SmartScan
to
recognize a face, but the temperature that is returned may
possibly be the temperature of the hair and not the forehead.
Make sure there is no sunlight on the face or in the view of the
SmartScan
camera. This may lead to false readings.
Direct sunlight on the face drastically affects the temperature
measurements of a face showing false higher reading. Sunlight
in the background may heat up large surface areas in the
camera view which may interfere with an optimal temperature
read.
Keep cold air vents away from the front of
SmartScan
. This
may lead to false readings.
Cold air that blows on faces may result in low temp readings
and interfere with an optimal temperature read.
Pace people to walk through
SmartScan
at least 6ft apart to
maintain social distancing and to prevent multiple readings at
a time.
While
SmartScan
is more than capable of reading more than
one person at a time, post screening may become unmanage-
able. Identifying which person has a high temp if two or more
people are scanned, but only one has a high temp alarm will
increase post screening time and potentially affect throughput
should this scenario occur.
Test for low temp, high temp, and non-read detection during
initial installation and before operating
SmartScan
.
Make sure that
SmartScan
is operating properly before use to
ensure it will work reliably during operation.
Prepare for a 15 minute warm up time at startup.
SmartScan
, like other telethermographic IR systems, require
a warm up and calibration period after powering on with a
single press of a button.
Open camera lens cover during operation and close during
storage
The lens cover is designed to protect the cameras from dust or
other environmental elements while in storage.
Walk at a medium pace.
Walking at a medium pace while approaching
SmartScan
allows for multiple temperatures to be detected to obtain an
optimal temperature.
