8. MAINTENANCE / TROUBLESHOOTING
There are many factors that need to be taken into ac-
count when using the SmartScan system to detect tem-
peratures in various settings and environments. It is not
recommended to install outdoors as the unstable outdoor
environment will affect the temperature measurement ac-
curacy.
EXCESSIVE HIGH OR LOW TEMPERATURE
ALARM READINGS
Changing in the environment may lead to exces-
sive high temp or low temp readings. Often times, the
weather may contribute to the surrounding temperatures
which may lead to temperature swings in the forehead.
People waiting in a cold area or an excessively hot area
before entering SmartScan may affect these readings. This
may be more frequently seen if using the "Multi Scan"
Algorithm. Switching to the "Statistical" Algorithm
would help to compensate for the varying temperatures
over a longer period of time.
Perspiration on the forehead will also lead to low temp
readings. It is recommended to position SmartScan in a
location where perspiration will not be a factor.
EXCESSIVE NON-READS
People wearing hats, sun glasses on their forehead, cover-
ings that cover their hair and forehead may affect Smart-
Scan' s ability to detect a face and return a temperature.
Also, people looking down or away from the camera may
cause a low temperature read or non-read. Makes sure
patrons are looking up at the camera as they approach
SmartScan . Excessive non-reads will also occur if the
camera lens cover is closed.
GARRETT SOFTWARE PROGRAMS
There are a few programs running on SmartScan that are
required for SmartScan to operate correctly. Use caution
when remotely accessing SmartScan as closing any of
these programs will cause the system to not functional
properly. If by chance one of the programs are inad-
vertently closed, wait for approximately 10-30 seconds
before doing anything else. The programs are designed to
reopen themselves after ~10-30 seconds should this hap-
pen in a remote desktop session.
