7. AIS OPERATION

Note 1:
The RP-250 continues to process AIS targets when the AIS feature is
switched off. When the AIS is again turned on, symbols are
immediately displayed.
Note 2:
AIS symbols are momentarily erased after the screen is redrawn when
bow direction is changed in the Head-up mode.
Note 3:
The AIS menu can also be opened without using the function key as
below.
1) Press the [RADAR MENU] key to open the FUNCTIONS 1 menu.
2) Press the [9] key once or twice to choose radar/plotter mode.
3) Press the [NAV MENU] key twice to open the VIDEO PLOTTER 1
menu.
4) Press the [1] key.
5) Press the [0] key three times to open the AIS 1 menu.

Turning AIS Display On/Off
1. Press the [RADAR MENU] key.
2. Press the [9] key once or twice to choose OFF or ON as appropriate. AIS
DISP: OFF or AIS DISP: ON appears at the top right-hand corner
depending on your selection. Note that the CPA/TCPA alarm for AIS is
always active regardless of whether the AIS display is on or off.
Note:
You may also turn the AIS display on or off by pressing the function key
with the video plot function active.
7.3 Activating
Targets
1. Use the trackball to place the cursor on the sleeping AIS target (indicates
only the presence of a vessel equipped with AIS in a certain location) you
wish to activate; that is, know more about a vessel’s motion.
2. Press the [AIS MENU] key to open the AIS menu.
3. Press the [1] key (ACTIVATE TARGET) to activate the target. The activated
AIS target symbol is superimposed on the radar echo as below.

SOG (Speed over Ground)
and COG (Course over Ground) vector
*1, *2
Turning direction
*1 = Length adjustable on
ARPA’s ARPA1 menu
or EPA electronic plot.
*2 = Vector shows STW (speed
thru water) and CSE
(course) when water
tracking mode is
selected at the radar.
# = If there is no heading data,
the line points in direction of COG.

4. Press any menu key to close the menu.
