Starting manual regeneration
Manual regeneration lasts approximately
30 minutes up to a maximum of 60 minutes.
You can only start the manual regeneration if:
R
the on-board computer has prompted you to
do so with corresponding event windows.
R
the regeneration block is not active.
X
Stop the vehicle, paying attention to road
and traffic conditions, and keep the engine
running.
While doing so, maintain a distance of at
least 40 in (1 meter) to other vehicles, other
objects and all flammable materials.
X
Apply the parking brake.
X
Shift into neutral.
X
Remove your foot from the accelerator.
X
For approximately 3 seconds, press the
upper section of the
É
button.
Manual regeneration only begins if:
R
the engine oil and exhaust temperatures
are sufficiently high
R
DEF is not frozen
R
the system is functioning trouble-free
The
É
indicator lamp lights up in the
instrument cluster and the engine speed is
increased.
When regeneration is finished:
R
the
É
indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster goes out
R
the engine speed is reduced to idling
speed
Regeneration is automatically interrupted if
you:
R
shift the automatic transmission to position
D or R
R
release the parking brake
R
switch on the regeneration block
The interruption reduces the engine speed to
idling speed.
i
During regeneration, the engine noise may
change.
i
If the on-board computer prompts you to
carry out manual regeneration when the out-
side temperature is low, start regeneration
before parking the vehicle.
If you park the vehicle without regenerating,
you can only begin manual regeneration
after the engine warming-up phase.
Start the manual regeneration after a thaw-
ing time of up to 60 minutes if:
R
DEF freezes
R
you have parked the vehicle for an exten-
ded period without performing regenera-
tion
Replacing the filter
G
WARNING
Direct contact or inhalation of soot particles
is hazardous to health. There is a risk of
injury.
Have the diesel particle filter replaced at a
qualified specialist workshop.
If, in an exceptional circumstance, you have to
replace the diesel particle filter yourself,
observe the corresponding workshop informa-
tion and work safety and accident prevention
regulations. Wear gloves and a dust protection
mask. Pack and seal the removed diesel parti-
cle filter in the original packaging. Label the
removed diesel particle filter and under no cir-
cumstances leave it unpacked in the open.
Fuel consumption
Fuel consumption depends on:
R
the vehicle version
R
the operating conditions
R
the fuel type in use
R
maintenance
R
driving resistance
R
your driving style
For these reasons, exact figures about any
individual vehicle's fuel consumption cannot
be provided.
