The FirstCall Alarm System provides an effec�ve response system. However, the Alarm System is
not a life saving device and cannot provide a guaranteed level of performance beyond what can be
expected from technology of this kind. The FirstCall equipment uses external systems and services
that FirstCall does not control, such as, telecomminica�ons networks, wireless cellular networks,
and global posi�oning satellite systems.

All devices that use the mobile phone network, such as the FirstCall “Out and About” pendant,
cannot be guaranteed to connect in all condi�ons. Please ensure that you are aware of the mobile
phone signal coverage in areas where you may be travelling. If you are travelling alone it is best to
avoid areas with poor mobile phone coverage.

The FirstCall “Out and About” pendant is equipped with an op�onal fall-detector. Modern fall-
detectors use sensors and complex so�ware algorithms to try to determine what is, or is not, a fall.
Although very advanced, fall-detec�on is not a perfect science - there are some types of falls that
may not be properly detected, such as a gentle slip.

The FirstCall “Out and About” pendant uses the Global Posi�oning System (GPS) to iden�fy the
loca�on of the person needing assistance. An accurate GPS loca�on fix requires the pendant to be
able to receive the radio signals from several low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellites. If the pendant cannot
receive the satellite signal it may not know its actual posi�on, and it will send the last known
posi�on from the last accurate satellite fix.
•
As is the case with all mobile phone devices, users with pacemakers should keep the pendant at
least 20cm from the pacemaker. We recommend using the belt-clip, rather than the neck cord.
