4. Joint Function
The basic function of all system ankle joints is to provide motion control. Depending on the used system com-
ponents, they may have the additional functions listed below:
System Component
Functions
System Joint
spring units
dorsal (posterior spring unit):
determination of the maximum range of motion in
plantar flexion;
integrated dorsiflexion assist;
ensures a controlled lowering of the foot during
loading response
NEURO CLASSIC-SWING
NEURO VARIO-SWING
NEURO SWING-CLASSIC
NEURO SWING
NEURO SWING 2
ventral (anterior spring unit):
determination of the maximum range of motion in
dorsiflexion;
increased energy return during heel lift supports
push off
dorsal and ventral:
dynamically bringing the patient into an upright posi-
tion as well as stabilising the patient when walking
and standing by balancing the body
motion limiting screw:
adjustment of the maximum range of motion in any
direction
System Component
Functions
System Joint
adjusting screw units
dorsal (posterior adjusting screw unit):
readjustment of the range of motion in plantar
flexion
NEURO VARIO-CLASSIC 2
NEURO VARIO 2
NEURO VARIO-SWING
ventral (anterior adjusting screw unit):
readjustment of the range of motion in dorsiflexion

Functions
System Joint
system stirrup which can
be adjusted by filing
dorsal:
adjustment of the range of motion in plantar flexion
by filing the system stirrup along the laser lines
NEURO CLASSIC-SWING
NEURO SWING-CLASSIC
ventral:
adjustment of the range of motion in dorsiflexion by
filing the system stirrup along the laser lines
