AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY FOR RECOVERING SHOE-DRUM CLEARANCE

The frame

is also subjected to a pushing force from the flexible blade

During the braking action

the t w o shoes move apart and come into contact w i t h the drum; the t w o ends of the adjuster assembly

are held in contact w i t h the shoes by means of the springs

and

( 8 ) .

The frame

is pushed by the flexible blade

against the ratchet wheel

( 3 ) ,

and by means of the

pawl

( 9 )

(-permanently in contact w i t h the ratchet w h e e l ) , causes it to rotateCD.

During brake release, the automatic adjuster assembly is again compressed by the action of the upper

shoe return spring

( 6 ) ;

the ratchet wheel

stops at the angle assumed during braking. This stop dur-

ing rotation is caused by the friction between the frame

and the ratchet wheel

( 3 ) .

During overhaul, before fitting t h e brake linings,

the ratchet wheel

of the adjuster assembly

must be brought into contact w i t h the spring
