Using the Lift
5.12 Unloading the Lift
To unload the lift:
1. Roll the lift as close as possible to the destination.
2. Raise the boom until the body or casket is higher
than the destination surface.
3. Carefully move the lift forward until the body or
casket is over the destination surface and engage
the wheel locks.
4. Lower the boom until the weight of the body or
casket is fully supported by the destination
surface.
5. Disconnect the D-ring end of the straps from the
spreader-bar assembly.
6. Carefully remove the straps from beneath the body
or casket, using the extractor wand as needed.
Using proper mortuary procedures, you can also
free the straps by rolling the body onto its side.
7. Reattach the straps to the spreader-bar assembly.
8. Disengage the wheel locks.
9. Raise the boom if necessary and move the lift
away from the body or casket.
10. If you are finished using the lift, plug it in to a
wall outlet to charge.
5.11 Loading the Lift
To pick up a body or casket:
1. Make sure the lift legs are locked in the extended
position.
2. Roll the lift as close to the body or casket as
possible. Position the lift so the majority of the
weight will be centered under the spreader-bar
assembly, mast and boom.
3. Engage the wheel locks.
4. Raise or lower the boom as needed to position
the spreader-bar assembly over the body or
casket.
5. Disconnect the D-ring end of the straps from the
spreader-bar assembly.
6. Use proper mortuary procedures to position all
four straps under the body or casket. Use the
extractor wand as needed to aid strap placement.
7. Reattach the straps to the spreader-bar assembly.
8. Verify that all straps are securely attached to both
sides of the spreader-bar assembly.
9. Raise the boom just enough to verify that the body
or casket is secure and balanced in the straps.
Lower the boom and reposition the straps if
necessary.
10. When satisfied that the load is securely attached
and correctly balanced beneath the spreader-bar
assembly, raise the lift to the desired height for
transport.
11. Disengage the wheel locks and roll the lift to the
destination (see
Rolling the Lift,
page 15).
