Working with AC Power Supplies

Platform Guide: 1600, 3600, and 3900

Replacing a power supply

We recommend that you perform the power supply replacement on a 
standby unit in a redundant system after halting it and powering the system 
off. After you install the power supply in the standby system, force the 
active system to fail over and install the power supply replacement in the 
other unit of the redundant system. 

Important

If the power supply is inserted with the power switch turned on, the power 
supply cannot function, for safety reasons. If the power supply you have is in 
this condition, turn off the power switch, remove the power supply, reinsert 
it, and then turn the power switch on.

To replace a power supply

1. Make sure that the power switch on the power supply is turned off.

2. Disconnect the AC power cord from the power supply before 

removing it from the unit. 

3. The power supplies are held on the chassis by a screw. Loosen the 

screw using a Phillips screwdriver.

4. Pull the old power supply out of the system.

5. Slide the new power supply into the power supply slot.

6. Tighten the screw into place using a Phillips screwdriver. 

The power supply is connected to the system when you tighten the 
screw completely.

7. Attach the power cord to the new power supply.

8. Turn the power switch on.

If the power supply was accidentally inserted while the power switch was 
on, the power supply may not function properly. To correct this condition, 
you must turn off the power switch, remove the power supply, reinsert it, 
and then turn the power switch on before the power supply can function 
properly.
