Platform Guide: 1600, 3600, and 3900

Reviewing maintenance options and operations

The 1600/3600/3900 platform supports DC power supplies. This chapter
describes how to install these platforms. The 1600/3600/3900 DC power
supply does not have an on/off switch. You can control the power from the
rack switch or the DC power source.

Getting started

You will need the following tools to install the DC power supply:

• Wire stripping tool

• Small slotted screwdriver

• 14-16 AWG copper wire long enough to reach from the platform to the

DC power source

WARNING

Before you begin to work with one of these platforms, refer to the
environmental warnings provided in Chapter 9,

Working with

Environmental Guidelines for the 1600, 3600, and 3900 Platforms

particular, please review the

Guidelines for DC-powered equipment

page 9-2. You should also review any safety requirements for the facilities
where the DC-powered platforms will be installed.

Wiring the DC power supply terminal

The DC power supply for the 1600/3600/3900 platform includes a DC
terminal block plug. You connect the wires to the terminal block plug and
then insert the terminal block plug into the DC power supply, which is
located at the back of the unit.

To prepare the terminal block plug

1. Review the power supply label and determine the correct wire size

for your installation.

Note:

F5 Networks recommends that you use 14-16 AWG copper

wire.

2. Use the wire stripping tool to remove 3/8 inch of insulation.

Important:

Be sure to remove the appropriate amount of insulation

from each wire. If you remove too much insulation, exposed wire
protruding from the terminal block plug can create an electrical
hazard. If you do not remove enough insulation, the wire may not
make proper contact with the terminal.
