together. The upper part begins spinning and
pressure is reapplied to weld the parts.
Start Angle
Specify the desired starting angular orientation.
This is also the angular orientation for loading
the upper part half.
b. Head Down
Touch the Head Down area of the process
flowchart (Figure 5-4) and specify the speed
transition, approach speed, trigger, and trigger
window (static start) or maximum collapse
(dynamic start).
Speed Transition
Specify the position during the down stroke at
which to transition to a slower speed. The
slower speed is defined by the approach speed
parameter. Note: deceleration takes about 0.5”.
Specify a speed transition that is high enough
(numerically lower) above the trigger position to
account for this.
Approach Speed
Specify head speed as it approaches the trigger
from the speed transition.
Trigger
The trigger has a different function depending
on the Start Mode and Load Mode. If the Load
Mode is Vac Pickup or the Start Mode is Static
the trigger function checks the height of the
assembled parts prior to welding. If the pre-
welded assembly height is equal to the trigger
value +/- the trigger window value then the
weld will begin. If the height is outside this
range then a message will be displayed to the
operator indicating the fault. If the Load Mode is
Vacuum or Detent and the Start Mode is
Dynamic then the trigger value is the point at
which the weld time begins timing and the
collapse distance begins measuring from. The
trigger window is not applicable in this case and
a max collapse value is specified instead.
