MIG Wire , Gun Connection , Power Source and Wire Feeder Information
Wire Feeder Information:
The Power i
-
MIG 353DPi design features a power source and a separate portable wire feeder. The FCS 203 Wire Feeder serves as the primary
wire feeding unit for this welder. The power source feeds the welding power and wire feeder power to this unit. The wire feeder is detachable
and separate from the main power source and can be carried and placed near the work area. For cases requiring the use of a spool gun or push
-
pull gun, the connections for these optional accessories are located on the front of the wire feeder, and not on the power source itself. The wire
feeder is connected to the main power source via the control cable and the welding power cable. The wire feeder sled attaches to the top of the
cart main arm via the swinging pedestal. The pedestal on the cart can swing either direction to allow repositioning of the wire feeder to reduce
strain on the MIG gun when welding at angles not directly in front of the feeder.
Polarity is changed by simply changing the location of the power cable on the power source (main unit). No other change is needed. Swap the
power lead from the power source from (+)positive to (
-
) negative or vice versa. The work clamp will be connected directly to the power source.
Controls/Features of Feeder.
Function Switch: Use the function switch to switch between the main gun/push pull gun or the spool gun.
Pull Motor Connection: This provides operating power to the Pull Motor on the optional Push
-
Pull gun
Control Connection: This provides control information and operating power to the Spool Gun.
Volt Adjustment: The Voltage adjustment adjusts either the Voltage or Voltage Offset of the machine (discussed later), depending upon operating
mode. See full discussion of setting up and adjusting the unit.
Amp Control: Although this control varies wire speed, it also indirectly varies the Amperage as the wire speed is increased or decreased. The
power source
’
s main display will reflect the change as it is adjusted. Because this MIG is a synergic MIG, the related power source display will
display only in Amps, even though wire speed may be increased or decreased through the use of this knob.
Main Connection: This connection provides the direct, main connection for the MIG Gun, Spool Gun, or Push
-
Pull Gun. This connection pro-
vides power, switch control (On/Off), and welding wire to the gun, depending on the type of gun connected.
Cool Water Output (Blue): This provides water to the optional water
-
cooled MIG gun. On the backside of the wire feeder, the cool water from the
cooler should be connected to the color matched blue fittings.
Warm Water Input (Red): This provides return water from the gun. On the backside of the wire feeder, the warm water from the gun will exit and
return back to the cooler and should be connected to the color matched red fittings.
Wire Carrier (Side View): The wire is loaded and accessed at the rear of the unit. The Wire carrier cover is a clam shell type construction and is
hinged to open up and close back around the spool of wire. For loading wire spools see the detailed information in located in the Setup section.
Wire Jog: This allows the user to cold feed wire while installing the wire roll and feeding into the gun. When pressed the feeder will begin to
move and when released the feeding will stop.
