NOTES ON BATTERIES AND RECHARGEABLE
BATTERIES
-
Batteries/rechargeable batteries do not belong in the hands of children.
-
Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; there is a risk that
they could be swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor
immediately.
-
Leaking or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries in contact with the skin
can cause acid burns, therefore, use suitable protective gloves.
-
Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown
into a fi re. There is a risk of explosion!
-
Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries, risk of explosion! Only
charge rechargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose; use suitable
rechargeable battery chargers.
-
Check that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries/rechargeable bat-
teries (pay attention to plus/+ and minus/-).
INSERTING/REPLACING BATTERIES/
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
Swing open the support bracket at the back of the housing.
Slide the lid of the battery compartment downward and remove it.
Insert two AAA/micro batteries observing the correct polarity. The correct polarity
is indicated in the battery compartment.
Immediately after inserting the batteries, the radio clock will start searching for the
DCF signal (see also section “DCF Reception”).
Close the battery compartment again.
Replacing the batteries is necessary when the battery warning symbol appears on
the display.
The use of rechargeable batteries is possible. The lower voltage (recharge-
able battery = 1.2 V, battery 1.5 V) and lower capacity, however, will reduce
the life span.
DCF RECEPTION
Immediately after the batteries are inserted, the device makes the fi rst attempt to
receive the DCF signal. While the device is attempting to receive the DCF signal, the
radio tower symbol fl ashes on the display. After successfully receiving the the DCF
signal, the time is automatically set to the current time and the radio tower symbol
is shown continuously.
The recognition and interpretation of the DCF signal can take approximately
3-5 minutes. Do not move the clock during this time. Do not press any but-
tons or switches!
Bad reception can be caused, for example, by metalized insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic
devices, or installation in cellars.
If the correct time is not shown after 10 minutes, move the radio clock to
another location, remove the batteries and re-insert them after about 10
minutes. Then the alarm clock starts a new attempt to receive the signal as
described above.
The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time is
done several times a day. One successful reception per day is suffi cient to keep the
deviation to less than 1 second.
The DCF signal is transmitted via a transmitter in
Main-fl ingen (near Frankfurt). Its range is up to
1500 km and, under ideal reception conditions,
even up to 2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the
precise time (theoretical deviation of 1 second in
a million years!) and the date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of
manually setting summer and winter time.
MOTION SENSOR
The radio alarm clock has a motion sensor, which can be used to control lighting and
snooze function.
In order to activate the motion sensor, move your hand over the alarm clock.
The motion sensor recognises this movement up to a distance of approx. 30 cm.
Make sure not to activate the motion sensor during all following set-
tings. If possible, hold the alarm clock with one hand at the lower part of
the housing.
If the display light is activated while changing the settings, wait for a
moment until it goes out.
