The WirelessHART Adapter supplies power to a two-
wire field device. The WirelessHART Adapter is
unable to find the field device and/or the two
devices do not communicate with one another.
• The field device does not support the HART protocol.
– The parameters can only be read by a HART field device.
• The wrong address range has been selected in the adapter
DTM.
– Check whether the address range is correct. See the
"Wired communication" section on Page
• The power supply is switched off before the field device can
communicate
– Increase the "Lead Time" power supply parameter in
increments of 10 seconds until the error no longer
occurs.
4
The WirelessHART Adapter is connected to a four-
wire field device or a control loop. The
WirelessHART Adapter is unable to find the field
device and/or the WirelessHART Adapter and field
device do not communicate with one another.
• The wrong address range has been selected in the adapter
DTM.
– Check whether the address range is correct. See the
"Wired communication" section on Page
• The wrong connection polarity was selected for a four-wire
field device.
– Make the connection correctly. See the "Four-wire field
• The PLC or remote I/O and a connected modem dominate
communication in a control loop. The WirelessHART
Adapter automatically switches to the slave mode.
– Remove the modem and make sure that the
WirelessHART Adapter is configured as the "Secondary
Master" if the PLC or remote I/O is configured as the
"Primary Master".
5
A field device is connected via terminals 1 and 2 or
2 and 3 and the HART modem is connected to
terminals 7 and 8. FieldCare is unable to find a
connected HART field device.
• If the modem is connected to terminals 5 and 6 or
terminals 7 and 8, HART communication is not forwarded
to terminals 1 and 2 or
2 and 3 (desired implementation)
– Connect the modem to terminals
1 and 2 or 2 and 3 so communication can be established
simultaneously with the WirelessHART Adapter and the
field device. In the HART communication DTM, the
address range must be adapted to suit the address of the
field device.
6
The WirelessHART Adapter cannot join the network. • Check the following points if the WirelessHART Adapter
does not connect to the Fieldgate. It can take a few minutes
for the adapter to join the network.
– Check whether the power supply unit is connected
correctly.
– Check whether the electronically controlled power
supply unit is operational. The yellow LED 3 is lit as long
as the buffer of the power supply unit is charging. See
the "Light emitting diodes" section on Page
– Check whether the Fieldgate and the WirelessHART
Adapter have the same network ID and the same
network access key.
– Check that the WirelessHART Adapter is mounted
correctly. See the "Installation" section on Page
– Check whether the WirelessHART Adapter attempts to
join the network. If not, start a new connection attempt
by pressing the push button for 5 to 10 seconds. The
attempt to join the network is indicated as described in
the "Display" section. See the "Display" section on
Page
50 .
7
Adapter disappears sporadically from the network
• In the "Wireless Communication" window check the
number of neighbors in the "Diagnosis" function. See the
"Wireless communication" section on Page
89.
– The WirelessHART Adapter should have at least two
neighbors in a stable network. Three neighbors are
recommended in a noisy environment.
