9 Fibre blowing
Buckle Detector Operation
Buckle Detector States:
Green (Go)
Drive wheels speed equal to or less than the viscous drag created by the compressed air
Green/Amber (Partial buckle i.e. periodic buckling)
Drive wheels speed too high i.e. pushing the fibre unit in faster than the air viscous drag can transport the fibre unit into the m/d. Reduce speed until
continuous green indicator to correct.
Red (Full buckle)
Fibre unit hits a blockage, m/d connector or bend. If the condition is cleared and the fibre unit returns to the ‘green’ state the motor re-starts. If the
condition is not cleared then turn the air off then on i.e. pulse the air. If this fails then investigate the m/d route
NOTES:
1. The only time the green reset button needs pressed is when the green and the red lights both come on. This may be the case at start up when the
fibre flutters activating both top and bottom sensors.
2. The buckle detector does not function for 8fu and 12fu because of their rigidity and these fibre units are less likely to be damaged by buckling.
Blowing Head Control Unit
The control unit controls the speed of the feed wheels in the blowing head and indicates the speed and installed distance of the fibre unit.
There is also a cumulative distance reading to assist in maintenance scheduling. To prevent damage to the fibre a current limiting circuit
automatically stops the feed wheel motor when the fibre unit stops. The optical sensors in the blowing head feed a signal to the control box
that automatically regulates the speed of the feed wheels when the fibre unit experiences an excessive amount of buckle. The two control unit
fuses protect the 24V dc and 110V ac supplies respectively.
