4.3 Indoor and Vertical Planning Rules
(The Rules below are based on 4 fi bre unit being blown into a 5/3.5mm m/d. Any variables such as fi bre count and m/d size may affect the blowing
performance criteria stated below)
1. The external / internal cable interface of the
shall be no more than 2 metres from the building entry point (unless local rules
differ) ie switch from PE m/d to LFH m/d
2. Internal routes to be no longer than 600 metres between blow points.
3. Routes have not to include more than 16 x 50mm radius bends within 300 metres. (m/d can always be fi xed into tight turns AFTER the blowing operation)
4. Internal tubing should be installed in trunking, conduit, or on cable trays secured with Mille ties every 15 metres and at each bend.
5. Horizontal runs should not be attached directly to a wall.
6. Short vertical runs (3 or 4m) can be attached directly to a wall. The cable/m/d should be supported every 300-450mm with Mille ties.
7. Since fi bre unit is very prone to moving down vertical runs, Riser applications require loops in the m/d to support the fi bre unit. See guidance
below.(Use m/d loops with the MBR (minimum bend radius of the set). Using these rules ensures the FU is under minimal stress.
8. Avoid fi xing to walls that are considered ‘temporary’, e.g. stud walls that may be moved.
9. For the larger
m/d counts such as 19 and 24 tube bundles, it may be necessary to remove the sheath by window cutting at
sharp bends to give more fl exibility. Once this has been done, a rigid cover should be placed over the bare primary m/ds to give adequate
protection. When blowing in a high building, always try to blow down the building which will give a higher blowing performance. In order to
guarantee a smooth bend radius when installing LFH primary m/d, corner cards can be used to control the bend radius.
11. Never exceed 10bar pressure when installing fi bre through LFH m/ds and always consider the bend radius of the various fi bre unit sizes.
12. If the indoor blowing area has a high ambient temperature, eg over 40°C, consult Emtelle for higher temp rated m/d before using 10bar pressure.
Example: installing an 8FU into
a tall building, you could apply:
■
5 loops at the top floor, of
bend radius 150mm
■
Put a single loop (b/r 150mm also)
every 50m below the top.
Chosen vertical
ht ‘H’ between
loop positions
Number of loops ‘N’ at top only (min)
Bend radius of all loops ‘R’ mm (min)
