3.6.9 Setting the carrier tag
The carrier tag is a number associated with a carrier frequency generated by a particular
Electroline Control Unit in a single FSK system. In cable systems where more than one
Control Unit is used, subscriber taps with a single FSK decoder will only recognize and
accept messages from the correct carrier by reading the carrier’s frequency identification tag
(carrier tag is ignored for taps with dual FSK decoders). If the tag matches the tag that was
programmed into the decoder’s memory, then the tap status information will be decoded.
The carrier tag can be set to any value between 0 and 7. However, by default, tag 0 is used
for subscriber services. This number should not be changed unless a second carrier frequency
is introduced in the network.
Important:
Please contact Electroline’s technical support department before changing the carrier tag
value since this change will affect the way the entire system operates.
To set the carrier tag:
1. In the Control Unit IV setup screen menu, select the option Carrier tag by typing
8
and
press <Enter>.
2. At the prompt, type the new carrier tag (between 0 and 7) that will be associated with the
carrier and press <Enter>. The Control Unit will display its system information,
including the new carrier tag.

3.6.10 Saving the setup
Once you have set up the Control Unit, type
s
(Save as new default value and quit) and
press <Enter> to save the setup.
Please note the following:
•
You cannot use option f-Restore factory default values and quit. This option might be
harmful to the system and can only be used by specialized Electroline technicians.
•
If you do not save the setup, all the values you entered during the current setup session
will be lost the next time the unit resets.
•
If you remain in setup mode, no new subscriber service information can be received from
the billing system. By saving the setup, the Control Unit automatically exits setup mode.
Once you have selected the save option, the Control Unit resets. When it starts up again, it
displays the system information to confirm that the new setup parameters have been saved.
