Locate Tool Overview

Locate Tool Setup

 on page 60 for information on setting up this tool.

The Locate tool locates the absolute or relative position of a target in a Field of View (FOV). This special edge detection tool 
detects the 

first

 transition between bright or dark pixels. This tool is initially set up around a feature that is in a repeatable 

position with respect to other features being inspected. 

Examples:

The Edge tool detects and counts transitions between bright and dark pixels. The total number of edges can be counted, and 
the position of each edge can be found. Edge position information can be used for distance and angle measurements.

Examples:

Measure the height of a needle

Measure the deflection of an automotive gauge

•

Detect the edge of a web

Verify that a bottle cap is on completely

Object Tool Overview

The Object tool detects the edges of dark and bright objects. From these edges, the Object tool measures the widths of every 
dark and light segment along the ROI. The Object tool calculates the width and midpoint for every object and counts the total 
number of objects. The midpoint can be used to measure distances and angles. Each object can have a unique size limit, or all 
objects may have the same size limit.

Measure the pitch and gap of pins on an integrated circuit (IC)

Measure the gaps between stamped parts on a web
