2.6.3.1 Measurement of cesium radiation DER can be performed in any
position of the detector, i.e. the detector may be located in an open space, or may
be attached to any objects or materials, or even deepened in their mass.
2.6.3.2 In the DER from radiocesium measurement mode you can make an
advance or periodic evaluation of the purity of a location (no contamination with
radioactive cesium), where the supposed research of the specific activity of
relatively small packages with products or other materials is to be carried out.
2.6.3.3 The fact of the radioactive cesium emission detection, above all,
shows that the point of the detector location is relatively close to the contaminated
objects (for example, contaminated land, buildings, plants, etc.). That is, we get a
generalized answer that this area (location, room) has been exposed to man-made
radioactive contamination. And the next steps of the examination can identify,
which objects include pollution and in what amount.
2.6.3.4 Please read the following recommendations for proper understanding
of the results of cesium radiation detection.
2.6.3.5 Wait for the measurement completion, i.e. achievement of 100% of
measurement progress.
2.6.3.6 The fact of cesium emission detection will be a corresponding
position of the "FOUND-NOT FOUND" indicator and DER value other than zero,
for example, DER = 0.0081 mSv/h (see Fig. 2.47). Moreover, you will see a typical
image of cesium spectrum in the "expert" mode (currently, a spectrum in Japan will
look as shown in Fig. 2.48).
