6 .4 .1 Audio cable
It is recommended that a mono 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack
is used for transferring recording from devices to the
MS12.
It is possible, to use a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo
lead, however only the left channel will be recorded.
Where both channels of the stereo recording are
needed, a stereo to mono mixing lead should be used as
detailed below.
6 .4 .1 .1 Stereo to mono mixing lead
The lead mixes both left and right channels.

A transformer isolated lead may be required to prevent ground loops
generating unwanted noise on the recording.
6 .5 Deleting messages
To remove an unwanted message, follow the same
procedure for recording a new message (see section
6.4) but stop the recording by pressing the front panel
switch as soon as the erasing or recording has started
indicated by the red indicator.
This process will erase the message and the new
recording will be too short thereby leaving the slot
flagged as ‘empty’.

A recorded message less than 4 seconds long is considered
invalid and slot is marked ‘empty’.
6 .6 Message playback initiation
Message playback is usually initiated in one of 2 ways:
•
Via the rear panel inputs
•
Via a Sonix access panel
It is also possible to use the front panel to initiate
messages, this is not a recommended method as
physical access is required to the unit, typically installed
behind a locked cabinet door.
6 .6 .1 Rear panel message initiate inputs
The rear panel input contains a set of 12 discrete inputs
split over two connectors (see section 5.4).
Messages initiated from these inputs will cause the
message to continuously repeat while the input is active.
De-activating an input after the message has started,
will cause it to play to the end before stopping.

Initiating and holding active a rear panel initiate will cause the
unit to continuously play the associated message.
6 .6 .1 .1 Message initiate input polarity
The polarity of the inputs can be configured, through the
SAS software, for normally-open or normally-closed as a
block. i.e. all normally closed or all normally open.
6 .6 .2 Sonix access panel initiation
Access panel initiation is only available if the unit is
connected to the system via the blue CAT6A cables.
This facilitates the PA/GA system to instruct the Ms12
unit to play a message.
A Sonix access panel can be used to remotely initiate a
message recorded on the Sonix Ms12 unit. The remote
initiation can only play a message that is already loaded
and is not disabled in the configuration.
To initiate playback, first press the Ms12 (also labelled
as ‘Monitor’) button, then press the zone button
corresponding to the message required. The zoning for
the message playback is set in the Ms12 configuration
and cannot be dictated from the Hmi-26.
